10 Hurricane Facts To Save You From Disaster

Dear Friend, you must understand that you and I are the Masters of This Earth and even though we are not stronger than Nature, we can take some steps to protect ourselves and what we have acquired from its natural wrath. And Important To Note That: The word "hurricane" is derived from Hurican, the god of evil of the Carib people of the Caribbean. Hurican was himself inspired by the Mayan god Hurakan, who destroyed humans with great storms and floods. Hurricanes are actually tropical cyclones. This generic term applies to tropical or sub-tropical ocean storms with winds topping 74 miles an hour (65 kilometers an hour). Names such as "hurricane" and "typhoon" refer to cyclones that occur in different regions, but they are the same type of storm, according to NationalGeographic.com. A hurricane releases the bulk of its energy through cloud and rain formation. An average storm’s daily cloud and rain energy output is equal to 200 times of the world’s electricity-generating capacity

So let us look at The Terms and Definitions, Along with the Steps to having a Hurricane:

1. Tropical Disturbance: An area of thunderstorms in the tropics that may have rotary circulation and maintains its identity for at least 24 hours.

2. Tropical Depression: A storm system displaying a noticeable rotary circulation and maximum sustained wind speeds of 38 miles per hour.

3. Tropical Storm: A storm system that displays substantial rotary circulation and maximum sustained winds between 39 and 73 miles per hour. When a system reaches Tropical Storm strength, it is assigned a name by the National Hurricane Center.

4. Tropical Storm Watch: An announcement for specific areas that a storm, or the potential of a newly developing tropical storm, poses a threat to coastal areas, generally within 36 hours.

5. Tropical Storm Warning: A warning that tropical storm conditions, including possible sustained winds within the range of 39 - 73 miles per hour, are expected in specific coastal areas within 24 hours.

6. Hurricane: Once a tropical storm's constant wind speed reaches 74 mph or greater, it is classified as a hurricane.

7. Hurricane Watch: An announcement for specific coastal areas that a hurricane or an incipient hurricane condition poses a possible threat, generally within 36 hours

8. Hurricane Warning: A warning that a hurricane is expected in a specific coastal area within 24 hours. When a hurricane warning is issued, all precautions should be taken immediately. If the hurricane's path is unusual or erratic, the warning may be issued only a few hours before the beginning of hurricane conditions.

9. Storm Surge: The increase in water level beyond normal tidal changes caused by the action of the storm. This is an increase in standing water level; wave action may cause damage above this level.
