Hello Hurricane - What To Do About Hurricanes.

Hello Hurricane, How To Stay Home Or Evacuate In A Few Easy Steps is what we will explore today dear Friend. And you will find out the less painstaking ways of either staying put or move out to a shelter or at another's house.

Staying Home: If you remain in your home, then you must develop a written plan, not one in your head only. Call to let someone know where you are, per your Communications Plan. Because you'll be surprised as to how quickly a tree blocks the road, or power lines brake and all phone signals are deactivated. You want someone to come assist you if they do not hear from you.

Implement your household disaster plan, like having taken a good look at your roof, your doors and your windows. To see what conditions they are in. Then move inside the house and find the strongest room where you will make your stand, and that is the room facing away from the winds. Also Consider building a safe room. STAY INDOORS, and avoid the temptations of going outside once the Hurricane has come. After all, this is what you chose and by now all preparations should have been completed.

Stay away from windows, glass doors, exterior walls, and overhead hazards. Take refuge in a small interior room, closet, or hallway on the lowest level. Lie on the floor under a table or another sturdy object. And just be observant as situations and scenarios can change quickly during a Natural Disaster. For what was safe a minute ago can now become a projectile.

Close all doors, windows, curtains and blinds - secure and brace external doors. And if you have doors and window shutters, then use them. But always leave one back door and window accessible to you that is away from the wind, just in case you have to make a quick get away like from a falling tree.

Remember " The Calm Before The Storm " so Do not be fooled if there is a lull; it could be the eye of the storm - winds will go from Zero to Extreme without warning. Collect as much water as possible in everything that can hold water. Because if there is flooding, regular water will mix with sewage lines and dead animals. And so Fill water containers and clean bath tubs with water.

Maintaining communication is essential with your friends, family and your local authorities. Because this is your time of needs. So Periodically check your telephone for a dial tone. Also take a good look at your Family and see who will need the most help. Is it Grandpa or the sick Baby?. Prepare to cope with any family members that have special medical needs? What special supplies and food will you need to have on hand? You know your house, your neighborhood and your capabilities much better than anyone, so examine everything to see if you need to have any special equipment available for after the storm?

My Friend, we live in a Society where everything is Documentation. You have to prove everything about yourself and your family with every form of transaction, so put important documents in a safe, waterproof location, such as a waterproof safe, or an ice cooler sealed with duct tape. Or use anything you can think of that is waterproof.

Don't be shy and a Recluse, not at this time. Notify out-of-area relatives that you are staying behind and tell them if they do not hear from you within 24 - 48 hours after the Hurricane to come and check on you.

Make sure you get all your flashlights filled with fresh batteries, your generators filled with gas and extra gallons of gasoline in containers. Also prepare your grills with extra charcoal bags, along with extra wood for your fire place. In short, be prepared to live without utilities and normal services for as long as two weeks after the storm.

So after you have done all this, now remain calm. And that is the most important step in any disaster, because when you are calm you can think and come up with answers to any new problems.

Hello Hurricane, How To Stay Home Or Evacuate In A Few Easy Steps. Leaving: If you evacuate: You must make sure your house, cars and boats are safe that you are about to leave behind. So start looking for all possible hazards like trees, lose sheds and begin to seriously implement your household disaster plan. Be sure trees and shrubs around your home are well trim. Clear loose and clogged rain gutters and down spouts and determine how and where to secure your boat.

My Friend, do not play with your life and the life of your loved ones. Once you decide to evacuate, do not be in between because when a Hurricane strike is imminent you only have a couple of hours to get to a safe position, plan ahead and be prepared to evacuate as soon as the anticipated evacuation order is given. Make your plans far in advance and discuss them with your family, and they will be much more cooperative when the time comes if you include them during the planning phase. And identify ahead of time where you could go if you are told to evacuate. Choose several places -- a friend's home in another town, a motel, or a shelter.

When an evacuation order is given, they are not playing. They have Scientists who are way smarter than me and you that can show base upon patterns, graphs, and history where and how a Hurricane will do damages. So remember, Evacuation orders are mandatory. Don't try to stay behind or argue with authorities. And nowadays do not just count on your navigation system only. The " Old Fashioned Road Map " will never fail you, and it will show you all the different roads on paper. So get one and put it in the glove compartment. Also keep handy the telephone numbers of these places as well as the road map of your locality. You may need to take alternative or unfamiliar routes if major roads are closed or clogged.

Listen to NOAA Weather Radio or local radio or TV stations for evacuation instructions. Plan, Plan and plan ahead my Friend. Always Know where you are going. Have a backup plan if roads are too congested to get out in time. And drive around a day before to get to know your designated local shelter.
Always do a final inspection before leaving your home, shut off all gas appliances and water at root valves. Shut off main electrical breakers. And consider leaving refrigerator circuit on to keep freezer going as long as possible.

While some might only worry about rain and winds during a Hurricane, I say: Be alert for tornadoes, which are often spawned by hurricanes.

Before hand, know what you can or can not bring to the Shelter where you are going. Call ahead of times or go by there the day before. Do not bring pets, alcoholic beverages, or weapons to public shelters, because you will find yourself in arguments and confrontations with volunteers and the Police. Some document are a must to have with you during a time of disaster. So keep important papers, especially insurance policies, with you at all times. I do not want you to become a victim and homeless.

Constantly monitor your radio for the latest information on the storm movement or until the "All Clear" has been issued. Again, Communicate. Notify other family members where you will be, it is for your own good. As you are the one who needs help at this time, and so help them to help you. Do not be anxious after a Hurricane and do not try to return to your home until local authorities grant permission. Expect limited access and curfews during recovery operations, as they are trying to protect your communities from looters and potential accidents from falling trees and still active broken power lines.

Hello Hurricane, How To Stay Home Or Evacuate In A Few Easy Steps. And in closing dear friend, the best advice I can give you is to always plan ahead. Always look for deals and buy things that you know you will be needing one day during a disaster. And so that way you will not go into a Zombie like trance and do what you should never do - Panic.
