When you think of a receipt, you immediately know that it is proof of an event that took place between 2 parties, and that piece of paper or electronic invoice is forever traceable. But what happens when a receipt has been forged or tampered with? Who is liable for such great act of perjury? And this is just the issue at hand for this article, where a white male went to Red Lobster and ordered a take out meal, and once he was handed his credit card receipt to sign, he did so. And where the line for ''Tip" is shown he wrote the word "None", since according to him it was a "Take-out order" just like when you order your meal at a Mcdonald. Afterward he supposedly left that receipt on the table for the waitress (Black Female 19-year-old Toni Christina Jenkins), since at restaurants they sometimes hand you 2 printed receipts, one for you and the other for the waitress or cashier. But later on, the waitress posted on her facebook account a copy of the receipt with the hand writing, except this time the word "Nigger" was added under the word "None" that was written on the "Tip" line. But the letters "N" and "E" do not seem to match the original handwriting, and later on handwriting expert hired by the white male family also showed that the handwriting do not match. Now this is where the detail gets blurry, who wrote the racial slur on the receipt? And why didn't Red Lobster have procedures in place to secure customers receipts and information, especially in this day and age of Identity Theft, of Perjury and malicious thefts?
Now the question is, you as a business owner, what is your policy when it comes to receipts, and what measures do you take to ensure there is no tampering with clients receipts?
