The Apple... Why Did Mother Earth Give Us Such A Great Fruit.

An apple a day keeps doctor away

Why Did Mother Earth Give Us Such A Great Fruit Like The Apple? Because it does not matter if you are a child or a very old adult, we all love biting in an Apple, and then just hear that crunching sound. Then we can just sit back and let our taste buds palpitate, while the the juice is working its magic in our mouth. Also because The Apple is so watery and juicy, we just can not help ourselves, whenever we see a basket full of red delicious - juicy Apples, then we just have to grab one, wipe it on our shirt, and begin to take a bite. And of course, let's not forget about The Famous Apple Pie, AWWW! Just looking at that pie, and smelling the warm flavors rising up to your nostrils make you want to reach out and begin to pig out. Also because The Apple is sweet, then it is considered a happy food to pick us up whenever we are down and out, but still want to eat healthy.

Okay, so now I have just helped You to remember just how much you love The Apple, but in all truth, Just How Much Do You Really Know About The Apple? Well Let's Find Out:

When it comes to The Apple, Archaeologists have found evidence that Humans have been enjoying Apples since at least 6500 B.C. And the Apple tree originated in an area between the Caspian and the Black Sea, and that's all we know so far.

The word Apple comes from the Old English Aeppel. The Celtic word for Apple is Abhall. And the game of "Apple-Bobbing" began as a Celtic New Year’s tradition for trying to determine one’s future spouse. And since The Apple is made up of 25% Air, then it floats on any water surface, and can easily be submerged but very hard to catch with your mouth, since it becomes slippery when wet.
The science of Apple growing is referred to as Pomology. coming from the French Translation of the word Apple, which is "Pomme" and add to that "Ology". And Scientists have long ago found out that Apples are fat - sodium - and cholesterol free. And a medium Apple is about 80 calories. Apples are a great source of the fiber pectin. One apple has five grams of fiber.

7500+ varieties of Apples are grown throughout the world, and China produces more Apples than any other country. Also it takes energy from 50 leaves to produce one Apple. And Apples harvested from an average tree can fill 20 boxes that weigh 42 pounds each.
100 varieties of apples are grown commercially in the United States. And the largest Apple ever picked weighed three pounds, two ounces. Some Apple trees will grow to over forty feet high and live over a hundred years.

Most apples can be grown farther north than most other fruits because they blossom late in spring, minimizing frost damage. America's longest-lived apple tree was reportedly planted in 1647 by Peter Stuyvesant in his Manhattan orchard, and was still bearing fruit when a derailed train struck it in 1866, well over 200 years. The world’s largest apple peel was created by Kathy Wafler Madison on October 16, 1976, in Rochester, NY and was 172 feet, 4 inches long. (She was 16 years old at the time, and grew up to be a sales manager for an apple tree nursery.) The largest U.S. apple crop was 277.3 million bushels in 1998. In 2005, Maryland produced close to 41 million pounds of Apples.

The Apple is the official state fruit of Rhode Island, New York, Washington, and West Virginia. The Apple Blossom (Pyrus coronaria) is the official state flower of Arkansas and Michigan. And 61 percent of United States apples are eaten as fresh fruit. 39 percent of apples are processed into apple products; 21 percent of this is for juice and cider.
Contrary to popular belief, there is no mention of an Apple as the Forbidden Fruit in the Bible. The Forbidden Fruit is referred to as "Fruit from the Tree of Knowledge" with no specification as to which kind of fruit. It was Hugo Van Der Goes who first implicated the Apple as the Forbidden Fruit in his 1470 A.D. painting, The Fall of Man. After that, it became popular to depict the Apple as the Forbidden Fruit.

The old saying "An Apple a day, keeps the Doctor away" comes from am old English adage, "To eat an apple before going to bed, will make the Doctor beg his bread."
